Compounded Oral Semaglutide: How It Works and Cost
You have decided semaglutide makes sense for your situation, but the idea of a weekly injection is holding you back. The good news is that semaglutide also comes in a daily oral form, and you can be evaluated for it through a fully online process.
This page covers what compounded oral semaglutide is, how it differs from the injection, who tends to prefer it, and exactly how to get a prescription through legitimate telehealth if a provider determines it is appropriate for you.
What compounded oral semaglutide is
Compounded oral semaglutide is a daily oral formulation that includes semaglutide. This is similar to how injectible version of compounded semaglutide is formulated, but it is not the same thing and has different protocol requirements. Instead of a weekly shot, you take it once a day on an empty stomach. It is an option for people who would rather avoid needles altogether.
“Compounded” means the medication is prepared by a US-based, state-licensed compounding pharmacy rather than mass-produced by a brand-name manufacturer. This matters for two reasons. First, it is why an oral option is available at all through our program. Second, it carries an important distinction: compounded semaglutide is not an FDA-approved product. It has not been independently evaluated by the FDA for safety, efficacy, or quality, and it is not the same as brand-name semaglutide products. We cover that distinction in full in the disclosures at the end of this page, and it is something to discuss with your provider.
Transformation Health is a telehealth platform. The medication is prescribed only when an independent, licensed provider reviews your health history and determines it is medically appropriate.
How oral semaglutide differs from the injection
The two forms share the same active ingredient, but they are taken very differently, and that is usually what decides which one fits a person’s life.
The clearest difference is frequency. Oral semaglutide is taken every day. Injectable semaglutide is taken once a week. A daily routine works well for some people and feels like a burden to others.
The second difference is absorption. Because the oral form is swallowed, it has to make it through your digestive system, which is harder than delivering medication under the skin. To be absorbed properly, oral semaglutide generally requires a consistent daily routine and specific timing around food and water. The injection bypasses your digestive system entirely, so its absorption does not depend on those daily habits.
Neither form is automatically “better.” The right choice depends on whether you would rather avoid a needle or avoid a daily routine. For a complete side-by-side look at dosing, absorption, side effects, and travel, see our oral semaglutide vs injection guide.
Who might prefer the oral option
Some people have a clear reason to choose the pill, and it is worth being honest about whether you are one of them.
You might prefer oral semaglutide if you have genuine needle anxiety or simply do not want to give yourself a weekly injection. That is a legitimate factor in a medical decision, not a weakness, and it is a common reason people look for an oral option in the first place.
You might also prefer it if you already have a steady daily rhythm. If you wake up at a similar time most days and already take a morning vitamin or medication, building a once-a-day tablet into that routine can feel natural. The daily form rewards consistency, so a predictable schedule helps.
On the other hand, if your mornings are unpredictable or you travel constantly, the once-weekly injection may actually be simpler. An independent, licensed provider can help you weigh these tradeoffs against your health history before anything is prescribed.
Does oral semaglutide work
This is the question most people want answered, and the honest version has two parts.
The active ingredient, semaglutide, has been studied in clinical trials for weight management. In clinical studies of oral semaglutide, the daily oral form has been evaluated as a way to deliver semaglutide without an injection. Semaglutide works by acting on appetite signals in the brain and gut, which can help reduce appetite as part of a broader plan that includes nutrition and activity.
Here is the part that matters for any compounded option. Compounded oral semaglutide has not been independently evaluated by the FDA, and the published trials studied brand-name formulations, not compounded ones. So while the active ingredient is well studied, you should not assume a compounded version will behave identically.
Individual results vary, and weight loss is not guaranteed. Semaglutide is a tool, not a cure. It works best alongside the nutrition guidance, coaching, and provider support built into the program, and your provider will help you understand what a realistic outcome looks like for your situation.

Getting started is a fully online process. You are not buying a medication off a shelf. You are being evaluated by an independent, licensed provider who decides whether a prescription is appropriate for you. Here is what the process looks like:
Step 1: Complete your intake
You fill out an online intake form covering your health history, current medications, and goals. It takes about 10 minutes, and there is no waiting room.
Step 2: Provider review
An independent, licensed provider reviews your information and determines whether compounded oral semaglutide is medically appropriate. Not all patients will qualify.
Step 3: Pharmacy preparation
If a prescription is appropriate, it is sent to a US-based, state-licensed compounding pharmacy that prepares your oral semaglutide.
Step 4: Delivered and supported
Your medication ships to your door. From there, you have access to coaching and provider check-ins as you build new habits.

Eligibility
A provider determines whether any GLP-1 medication is appropriate based on your health history, but there are general guidelines for who may qualify.
Most programs follow a body mass index (BMI) threshold of 30 or higher, or 27 or higher if you also have a weight-related condition such as high blood pressure or type 2 diabetes. These are starting points, not guarantees. The final decision always rests with the provider, and not everyone who applies will qualify.
One more requirement to know about: residents of Arkansas, Washington DC, Delaware, Mississippi, New Mexico, Rhode Island, and West Virginia are required by state law to complete a live video consultation before a prescription can be written. If you live in one of these locations, that video visit is simply part of your process. You can confirm where you stand with our GLP-1 eligibility guide, and you can review all compounded options on the compounded medications overview.
